Mission of the Month

Matthew 25:37-40 [NIV] (37)“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? (38)Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? (39)When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ (40)“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters you were doing it to me!’

The Mission of the Month (MOTM) is a program to emphasize the need for giving, above and beyond, what is given to the Church. By serving others, we serve Christ and fulfill the mission that he left us.

Thank Offering

Psalm 107:9 - "For God satisfies the thirsty, and fills the hungry with good things."

The Thank Offering is sponsored by the Presbyterian Women. This offering is collected in the fall of each year and gives women a tangible way to express their gratitude for the special blessings in their lives. The offering funds projects such as agricultural development, child care, community organization, criminal jus- tice, drug counseling, economic justice, elderly care, employment training, homelessness, literacy, violence and women’s concerns. At least 40 percent of this offering supports health ministries throughout the world, the remaining 60 percent funds new creative ideas for mission.

The PW Thank Offering originated in the late 1800s with Eliza Clokey of Springfield, Ohio. Her plan was to ask each woman to give a gift in addition to her usual contribution to the Women’s General Missionary Society of the United Presbyterian Church of North America as a "thank offering to our Lord." In 1888, the women designated a day for prayer and thanksgiving when this special offering should be received. These sacrificial gifts, it is said, saved the worldwide missionary movement of their denomination. Though the thrust of how and where the money was used changed over the years, the "thank offering to her Lord" continued to be an important part of United Presbyterian Women’s giving.

The 2010 Thank Offering funded 26 life-changing projects in a range of areas, from programs that relieve pain, provide clean water, alleviate homelessness, provide educational opportunities, promote health and improve the lives of women and children throughout the world. The goal for the 2011 Thank Offering is $1 million.

If you wish to donate to this charity, please write "MOTM" or "Thank Offering" on the memo field of your check and drop it in the offering or go to the link above.
